Why the Farrelly brothers decided Dear Santa was going to be their Christmas movie
When most people think of Christmas movies, they think of heartwarming classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life”. But for the Farrelly brothers, the duo behind such raunchy comedies as “Dumb and Dumber”, the idea of making a Christmas movie that would be both funny and heartwarming was too good to resist.
The result was “Dear Santa”, a 2011 comedy that follows the story of five dysfunctional families who come together each Christmas at their grandmother’s house. Through a series of misadventures, they learn the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of family.
“We wanted to make a Christmas movie that would be different from anything else out there,” said Peter Farrelly. “We wanted to make a movie that was funny, but also heartwarming and touching.”
